Help!

We have new backyard neighbors, actually they are our backyard neighbor's new neighbors. But, fences meet in the corner. I have been noticing a new dog barking quite often the past few weeks. But, yesterday that dog barked ALL DAY LONG, then proceeded to bark ALL NIGHT. I slept in a different room and Josh had earplugs. It still woke all of us up through out the night. I can't decide what to do, I wanted to call the police at 4:00 when it woke Caroline up. I decided against that, mainly b/c I was too tired. So, now what do I do? I have dogs, so I want to be sensitive. But, we try REALLY hard not to let them yap the days away. Any thoughts on this weird problem?

I HATE barking dogs so I can totally relate. I shut my dogs up when they get to barking and I couldnt imagine having to listen to them all night long especially waking up my daughter, if I were you, I'd march over there and ask them if they could please keep their dog inside at night because your family is losing sleep over it. If they refuse or continue to let the dog bark, THEN call the cops, but I'd ask them first. Or you can sneak over there and strap on a barking shock collar so each time he barks he gets shocked! lol jk Good Luck.

do you guys have a home owners association? you could always make a formal complaint and or call the cops. I hate one on one confrontation so I would either call the HOA or the cops. hope you get somei sleep tonight.

My parents had the same issue with their old neighbors a couple of years back and I am pretty sure my dad went over there politely the next morning and asked them to please bring their dog in at night as he was keeping them awake. If they don't do it after that, then I would take action and contact your HOA or the city. Hope that it gets resolved! Let us know what you do!

Dog is still barking, so bad last night Josh could hear it with earplugs and a fan. I think I know which house it lives in, but I am not sure. I am going to try to figure that out today. I think I am going to go straight to the HOA.

Hey Cassidy - I was just catching up on your blog and read this post. I have had the SAME situation. And I am having the same situation again with other neighbors. I am starting to think that I am the neighborhood grouch. But with the first neighbors (who also happen to sit out and smoke weed on their back porch all the time) I filed 2 complaints with the HOA and the dogs disappeared. And that was good because they didn't know who called in. With my other neighbors, I am going to try a different approach. I have heard that there is a device you can get at pet stores that puts off a loud screeching sound only audible to dogs. So when they start barking, this device goes off and hurts their ears and they stop. So that might be another option. Hope it gets better!
